So Yeshua was baptized, His Sonship declared and then His Sonship questioned or tested by satan.
The First Temptation:
Was the temptation at His weakest moment? He should have been hungry but also had been fasting & I assume praying for those 40 days. If it were a temptation to break the fast and eat, it seems that satan should have or would have appeared with fresh baked bread with an enticing aroma. The temptation was to use the special relationship with God, the power of His Sonship to prove that He was the Son of God and to meet His own physical need…
Is the temptation to test whether He was willing to walk the walk of a man on earth when He didn’t really need to do that… He could turn supernaturally meet all of His creature needs and living, sacrificing, was not necessary if He was the Son of God.. Abandon the Plan!
“If You are The Son of God”! and yet, taking the bait would have proven that He was not willing to wait on God to provide as a man living on this earth would have to wait. Even when He healed people, He said He did what He saw the Father doing.. He was doing the work of the Father, demonstrating and teaching what the Kingdom of Heaven is about. GOD provides within His Kingdom.
Royal Kingship and Suffering Servanthood
Temptation #2 – The temptation was to “throw Yourself down. For it is written, ‘He shall command His angels concerning you,’ and ‘upon their hands they shall lift you up, so that you may not strike your foot against a stone.”
It seems that not only is the temptation to test God by purposely trying to cause harm to Himself but could it refer to the future when Jesus was beaten and nailed to a tree? Could it be that satan is saying, “If You are the Son of God, You will not need to suffer and die on a cross, the angels will lift you up and prevent that.”? If You are The Son of God, You will not need to suffer.. God would not allow His Son to go through such suffering and death..
The Plan is not going to happen, so abandon the plan!
Temptation #3 –
Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
Again… Here is a shortcut to Kingship… You don’t need to go through the plan… Abandon the plan!
Yeshua went into the desert to fast & I assume pray before the beginning of His ministry and to be tested to see if He would stick with the plan….
His answer was to quote scripture, trust God for His needs, not to tempt or test God, and wait on God for provision and for the plan.. God’s plan, God’s provision, God’s timing.
I Praise GOD that His Son did NOT abandon the plan!
